Vanity Fair Interview: "Shiloh has Montenegro style"!

Angelina Jolie is quite candid in the August 2010 issue of Vanity Fair, in NY/LA on June 30, and everywhere on July 6. Here are some notable quotables from the 35-year-old actress:

On having more kids: “No, I’m not pregnant [but] we’re not opposed to it. We want to make sure we can give everybody special time. They’re kids now, and can play together, but they’re going to need a lot more talking in the middle of the night, like I did with my mom for hours. We want to make sure we don’t build a family so big that we don’t have absolutely enough time to raise them each really well.”

On tying the knot with Brad Pitt: “[We're not] against getting married [but] it’s just like we already are. Children are clearly a commitment, a bigger commitment [than marriage]. It’s for life.”

On taking a break from acting: “It’s not the most important thing in my life. Acting helped me as I was growing up. It helped me learn about myself, helped me travel, helped me understand life, express myself, all those wonderful things. So I’m very, very grateful, it’s a fun job. It’s a luxury. Look, I’m at work today in the middle of Venice. But I don’t think I’ll do it much longer.” Jolie says this reassessment is mostly due to her family: “Because I have a happy home….I got back from work last night, and everybody was playing music and dancing and I suddenly found myself dancing around with a bunch of little fun crazy people.”

On her many kids: “Mad’s a real intellectual, which I can take no credit for genetically. He’s great at school, great at history. He feels like he could be a writer or travel the world and learn about places and things. Zahara’s got an extraordinary voice and is just so elegant and well spoken. Shiloh’s hysterically funny, one of the goofiest, most playful people you’ll ever meet. Knox and Viv are classic boy and girl. She’s really female. And he’s really a little dude.”

On how Shiloh dresses: “Like a little dude. Shiloh, we feel, has Montenegro style. It’s how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes (regular) suits. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”

On being most like Shiloh growing up: “Goofy and verbal, the early signs of a performer…. I used to get dressed up in costumes and jump around. But at some point, I got closed off, darker. I don’t remember anything happening. I think you just get hit with the realities of certain things in life, think too much, start to realize the world isn’t as you wished it would be, so you deepen. Then, as I had kids and got older—being goofy, lighter—it all came back.”

On Brad’s beard and what he’s been up to in Venice: “I love Brad in every state… He sculpts and designs. He makes furniture, sculpts things related to houses. Traditional male.”

On Brad with the kids: “I keep telling Brad he owes me. He’s had a few months off in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with the children. And he’s such an artist and goes to the stone yards and the art exhibits, and loves being in such a cultural place.”

On a potential Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel: “People have tried. And it’s strange: do we have kids in the movie? We’ve thought about that, but it becomes personal now that we actually have kids. And if we work on it, we pull from our own life, which is funny to us, but you feel strange sharing too much. We did ask somebody to look into Mr. & Mrs. to see if they could crack a sequel, but there wasn’t anything original. It was just, Well, they’re going to get married, or they’ve got kids, or they get separated. Never great.”

On co-starring again with Brad: “I’d love to. We’ve talked about it. We’d have to figure out who’s going to watch the kids, but it’s really about finding the right thing, because we’ve looked. When you’re a couple, there are certain things people don’t want to see you do. It becomes too indulgent, too personal. I don’t think people want to see people who are really together intimate on-screen. Maybe we have to play bad guys that try to kill each other, so it’s just fun and aggressive, not dealing with some man-woman deal.”

No, Angie hasn't turned into Dina Lohan all of a sudden! Now this is the perfect family - for real! Yet it's rare to see them interact with, you know, "regular" people.

How come Brangelina's kids aren't scheduling play dates with Suri and Kingston by the way?

Angelina was then off for a deliberately low-key visit to Haiti, where she stopped by the SOS Children's Villages to meet with kids. Now that Angelina is home in California, she's all about spending time with her own six little ones and introducing them to her favorite hobbies.

Angelina asks Jennifer to stay away from her kids?

Hollywood’s once golden couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston might have parted ways years back but this bitter- sweet relation is creating tension for Angelina Jolie, Brad’s current partner.

Jolie had shown no objection when Brad decided to remain friendly with his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, but she is furious now with Jennifer trying to be close with her children. According to the Hollywood sensational actress, Jennifer is trying to act like a surrogate mother to her six children.

Angelina had made the point clear to Jennifer and Brad that she does not like the close association of Jennifer with her children. She has asked Jennifer to stay away from her children.

According to a source, “Jolie does not want her children to get confused about what is happening to their family. Jennifer’s behavior may affect her youngest child Shiloh, who is just 4 years old. If the children see their father spending much time with another woman, they may consider as a surrogate mother.”

After divorce Brad and Jennifer have remained in touch and they were even rumored to be rekindling the flame. Jolie is probably feeling insecure now with all these rumors around.

Well, whatever be the truth of Brad Pit and Jennifer Aniston’s relation, Jolie’s concern for her children is genuine as a loving mother. She has been a doting mother to all her six children despite being a busy celebrity.

High Commissioner António Guterres talks to an Iraqi refugee in Al Hassakeh before taking part in the live event.
WASHINGTON, DC, United States, June 18 (UNHCR) – UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie, High Commissioner António Guterres and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took part Friday in a unique live video event linking four locations around the world to mark World Refugee Day.

The event was held in the Benjamin Franklin room on the top floor of the US State Department in Washington, DC, and included participants linked from Ecuador, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Syria.

Addressing the audience of 250 people, media and those watching via the internet, Clinton said: "I hope we can use this day to honour the courage and resilience of the millions of refuges around the world who push forward each and every day with the hope that tomorrow might bring a return home or the hope of a better life. I certainly intend to remain committed to making that hope a reality."

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie joined the proceedings from the remote community of Berranca Bermeja in northern Ecuador, which is home to a small group of Colombian refugees.

Jolie, who first visited Ecuador for UNHCR in 2002, said the refugees, though isolated, were now receiving regular support and assistance from the refugee agency. "I have noticed a great deal of change here," she said. "UNHCR has done extraordinary work. The field officers have been getting out into the Amazon and going up and down the river. They've registered now 50,000 refugees who are so grateful. It's a very moving story."

Sitting among refugees in Al Hassakeh governorate (province) in northern Syria, High Commissioner Guterres praised the generosity of the Syrian people who continue to host more than 1 million refugees from Iraq. In contrast, he said, "increasing numbers of countries are closing their borders" to refugees.

The programme also linked to a settlement for internally displaced people near the town of Dungu in north eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Nearly 2 million Congolese have fled their homes as a result of continuing violence. UNHCR staffer Jorge Holly spoke to a man whose family had fled their home to escape violence by the Lord's Resistance Army, a brutal Ugandan militia group infamous for its attacks on civilians.

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie visits a daycare centre run by the Women's Federation of Sucumbíos, a province in northern Ecuador.
LAGO AGRÍO, Ecuador, June 18 (UNHCR)- UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has returned to northern Ecuador to see how the situation has changed since she was last in the country eight years ago and to raise awareness about unaccompanied minors and violence against female refugees.

The award-winning actress, who arrived in the city of Lago Agrío on Thursday, visited UNHCR field operations and the isolated community of Barranca Bermeja, located in thick jungle on the banks of the San Miguel River, which marks the border with Colombia. The little village hosts 34 families, most of them refugees from the violence that has plagued parts of Colombia for decades.

In Lago Agrío, capital of Sucumbíos province, she had a reunion with a Colombian mother whom Jolie last met here in 2002. "At that time she had a lot of hope for her future," the Goodwill Ambassador recalled, while adding: "She was recently treated for cancer. She still holds on to hope."

The award-winning actress also met with refugee women in a shelter for victims of domestic violence, which is a serious problem in the region.

Some of the women in the centre, run by the Women´s Federation of Sucumbíos, told harrowing tales of beatings, incest and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence. Some women even have to resort to "survival sex" to get lodging to feed their children. Others fall prey to sexual exploitation.

In Barranca Bermeja, Jolie spent time with the community and was impressed by their mental strength in coping with the suffering they had endured in Colombia. One woman fled after two of her family were killed – she did not want to lose any more of her children.

There are around 51,000 registered Colombian refugees in Ecuador, but UNHCR estimates that about 135,000 people are in need of international protection. This makes Ecuador the country with the largest refugee population in Latin America. Many of the Colombians live in remote settlements in the north, like Barranca Bermeja, often too scared to seek help from UNHCR and its partners.

"It's been eight years since I was last here and UNHCR's presence has grown considerably," Jolie noted after her arrival in Ecuador. "They are going into the thickest parts of the jungle to reach the refugees, who are living in very remote locations and in desperate conditions," she added.

"I wanted to come back and meet with vulnerable people and focus on violence against women and unaccompanied minors," Jolie explained. "I am so happy to be able to reconnect with some familiar faces, refugees I had met with during my 2002 trip." Single women, girls and Afro-Colombians are among the most vulnerable of the refugee population.

Jolie will be taking part on Friday (14:00 GMT) in a global live video link from northern Ecuador with Washington, DC, Damascus in Syria and Dungu in north-east Congo. The event, which includes refugees as well as High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is one of UNHCR's top World Refugee Day events this year.

Angelina's moving video on World Refugee Day

Humanitarian actress Angelina Jolie has once again put her superstar status to good use, and shot a 30-second video to help support World Refugee Day 2010, taking place on June 20.

A UN ambassador, Angelina has long been a supporter of the cause and has travelled to numerous war zones, including Darfur and Syria, as well as speaking to Congress in 2009 on the issue.

In the moving 30-second clip, the mum-of-six, who celebrated her 35th birthday on June 4, urges the public to remember those around the world who have been left without a home.

"Having a home, a place we belong, a place we feel safe, is something most if us take for granted," she says.

"Yet those we flee from conflict and persecution no longer have that place. And it will be years before they can ever return. In fact many may never go home again."

"On this day, World Refugee Day, please remember the millions of people around the world forced from their home. Because the only hope of return is to not be forgotten."
